History

A practicing artist and lawyer based in Melbourne’s western suburbs, Joanne Daniel creates original contemporary artworks inspired by her extraordinary life journey, vibrant use of colour, and unwavering Christian faith. Born in Iraq in 1985, Joanne and her family fled their homeland as refugees, spending several years living in tents in refugee camps before settling in Melbourne in 1992. A treasured childhood photograph of Joanne standing outside her family’s tent serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience, hope, and gratitude that continue to shape both her life and her art.

Working from her private studio, Joanne’s diverse portfolio includes bold abstract paintings, expressive landscapes, captivating portraits, and Christian-inspired artworks. Her portraiture has received national recognition, with Joanne being named a semi-finalist in the prestigious 2019 Doug Moran National Portrait Prize.

Joanne’s work is characterised by rich colour, expressive movement, layered textures, and an intuitive creative process.
